Northwest Fine Arts Competition: Juror's Choice Award

I’m thrilled to announce that my work was chosen as Juror’s Choice in the Northwest Fine Arts Competition! Three of my paintings, Quiver, Glow, and Set are featured in the show which runs from May 8 - June 14 at the Phinney Center Gallery in Seattle, WA.

The opening reception was held on Friday, May 8, with nearly 200 people in attendance to see 46 pieces by 27 local artists. I definitely recommend stopping by to see the show if you are in the neighborhood! The Phinney Center Gallery is located at 6532 Phinney Avenue North, Seattle, WA 98103.

It was an honor to be the featured artist for First Friday Art Walk there in October and November. Both events drew lively crowds with live music from local bands keeping the energy level high. If you are in Winslow be sure to stop in to see my work!

Paint Out Winslow

Saturday, September 8th, was the 5th Annual Paint Out Winslow event - a celebration of plein air painting on Bainbridge Island. It was hosted by Martha Jordan of the Winslow Art Center and I had a great time participating. We spent the morning and early afternoon painting and gathered that evening for an award ceremony judged by Michele Usibelli - congratulations to Paula Ensign on her first place prize! Guest artists Terry Muria, Mitchell Albala, Steven Reddy, and Darrell Anderson also participated and it was a treat to see their work in person. Wine tasting with local island wineries and sales of the finished pieces rounded out the event. I’m looking forward to next year - it’s going to be 3 days of painting!

I painted two gouache paintings on paper based on two of my favorite spots on the island: Battle Point Park and Weaver Road.

Art is happening . . .

I’m honored to be included in a group show, Art is happening . . . curated by Patrick Gulke at the Bainbridge Island Public Library. I have two small gouache paintings on view through October. Patrick coordinated an entire weekend dedicated to art and it was great to be a part of it. Here are some photos of the many pieces featured, as well as Patrick’s show description, which I love.

On Sunday, September 9th, I spent the afternoon at the library sharing more of my work along with a small group of fellow artists. It was a great chance to connect with the community. Many thanks to Patrick Gulke for organizing this event - be sure to listen to Patrick’s interview on the Bainbridge Community Broadcasting podcast for more information.

Camp Minted

I went to camp over the summer - in Las Vegas! It was a magical few days full of inspiration and enthusiasm and I left feeling so grateful for the experience. Minted hosted nearly 200 artists from around the world for Camp Minted: a creative retreat featuring three action-packed days full of workshops, guest speakers, classes, and fun. Highlights included meeting all the other campers, learning from the many talented speakers and presenters, morning yoga, and a beautiful dinner and awards ceremony with a surprise appearance by Elvis! I wish I'd taken more photos and could eloquently recap the entire trip, but luckily Minted did a beautiful job of that too - here is a fantastic summary
