Northwest Lights: Paintings by Kelly Johnston and Edna Crews

I'm excited to announce my upcoming show, Northwest Lights: Paintings by Kelly Johnston and Edna Crews at Mainframe Gallery.  The show features 3 of my landscape based paintings alongside some beautiful watercolor pieces by Edna Crews. I hope you can stop by!

Following is more information about the show from Mainframe Gallery:

"Last December we exhibited photography inspired by the theme of Northwest Light and pick up where we left off with the paintings of Edna Crews and Kelly Johnston.

Edna Crews (1915-1992) was a prolific watercolorist who studied under Mark Tobey and exhibited widely in the Northwest including Tacoma Art Museum, SAM and the Frey Museum. For this exhibit we've curated four watercolors executed from the late 1960s to the early 1970s when she began introducing intricate line work into her colorful saturated washes. The results were a clear mark of independence and singular artistic vision as she documented her spiritual impressions and natural history of the Northwest in painting.

Kelly Johnston is a fast emerging Seattle artist working in watersoluable oil on canvas. Kelly's atmospheric paintings consist of deceptively simple line work and colorful undertones that resemble sky and ocean settings and patterns. Each painting does not limit the viewer to reflect on a static, immovable image of a landscape but invites new perspectives to her work with each viewing. The result is an almost unlimited new and fresh experience with her paintings each time one sees them. We’re pleased to present them.

Northwest Lights opens Saturday, August 9th with a reception for the artist's from 6pm to 9pm and closes Saturday, August 30th."
